Merice Briffa 'MERESANKH' - Australia
Merice, director of Meresankh Middle Eastern Dance, started classical ballet at the age of five, continuing through to RAD Solo Seal, then running her own dance studio for many years.
Twenty years ago, after retiring from the ballet world she discovered belly dance and fell in love with it, particularly the Egyptian style. Merice has made many trips to Egypt to learn about the dance and culture from different Egyptian teachers. After 2 short trips she moved there to live for 6 months in 2009 and again, after other shorter visits, lived there for 4 months in 2012.
Merice chose Meresankh for her professional name because of its similarity to her name and its meaning. Meresankh was the name of a 5th Dynasty Egyptian queen and means ‘She loves life’
Lee Ann Leonard has been passionate about belly dancing since organizing and performing in Panama City Beach's first and only belly dance event benefiting Gulf oil spill recovery, "Bellies for the Beach." She choreographed numerous routines in her four years with a local belly dance troupe and continues to do so as the founder of Twisting Sisters Belly Dancers. When she’s not honing her skills at workshops, Leonard showcases her cabaret and tribal fusion belly dance styles at haflas, community events as well as business functions.Over the years, Leonard has been invited to perform at several area events like the American Heart Association's “Bay Heart Ball” and the American Cancer Society’s "Making Strides Against Breast Cancer" event.
Leonard, a belly dance instructor at Studio by the Sea in Panama City Beach, Florida, serves as the Team Leader for the beach's "International Shimmy Mob" team and has served for several years.
